You Are Not My Mother is one of those movies that's more of a drama than a horror, but in a good way. High schooler Char unlocks secrets of her family including her mother Angela, all in the framing of a dark witchy tale. Similar to one of my faves Hereditary which also revolves around troubled family dynamics, this movie places its trust in the characters to keep us engaged, which they certainly do. The horror elements don't really rely on heavy SPFX so much as it does with the reality of Angela's past, as well as Char being bullied. This is helped by the tremendous acting of the entire cast. I am also really interested to see what director Kate Dolan has in store for the future.
