THE DROPOUT (2022)

THE "IMDB" PREMISE:

"TV series that chronicles Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes' attempt to revolutionize the healthcare industry after dropping out of college and starting a technology company."

OUR [TO THE POINT] REVIEW:

As a humongous fan of the 2019 podcast 'The Dropout', I was stoked to learn a miniseries adaptation was on the way.

I’ve been fascinated by the Elizabeth Holmes debacle since word got out of the massive Theranos con, and I’ve always wondered which actress would be able to pull off such a bizarre character without being too over-the-top. Amanda Seyfried is that actress, ladies and gentlemen.

The series examines Holmes’ life, from her privileged upbringing to her ambitious turn as a teenaged CEO. It also makes some interesting implications as to why Holmes may have taken the path that she did. To say Seyfried nails the character is an understatement. She has the mannerisms/vocal intonations down to a tee and it’s a truly fascinating portrayal to watch.

The series sticks largely to information shared by Theranos insiders and whistleblowers in the podcast, and even though I knew what was coming every step of the way, I still felt myself glued to the screen.

I had high hopes for The Dropout, and I’m happy to report the first three episodes met my admittedly lofty expectations.

CONCLUSIVE VERDICT:

Thanks For Reading!
