TALL GIRL 2 (2022) 

As the title suggests, and as my fiancé blurted out at the start of the movie: she is tall... AGAIN. It really hit me at that moment. They actually made another one of these... and I watched it... the whole way through. 

 

Ava Michelle reprises her role as Jodi, who has come to terms with not caring about what everyone at her high school thinks about her height. However, without the external conflicts, she’s now forced to face her own insecurities. 

 

Jodie’s dating Dunkleman, whom she got her happily ever after within 2019’s Tall Girl. Their relationship is strong until a new guy, Tommy Torres rolls into town. Conflict surfaces as Tommy happens to land a co-starring role alongside Jodie in the school's production of ‘Bye Bye Birdie’, teenage drama ensues, and that's about it. Overall, it's another mix of strange behavior and awkward acting that given the franchise's first offering, I've come to expect. 

 

If you saw the original, you know what you're getting into. At one point it seemed like it wanted to be High School Musical, but then completely retracts to a sob story about Jodi's non-existent issues. The movie even calls her out on it, but then goes right back to feeding into it, nullifying any sort of message Tall Girl 2 tries to send.

 

If you enjoyed the first time the girl was tall, then you'll certainly enjoy her continued tall-ness. If the side characters are more your bag, Tall Girl 2 offers more glimpses into their lives and world. Personally, I'm still trying to figure out what about this movie was deemed sequel-worthy to begin with.
