CINEMA

DISCLAIMER: There are *HEAVY* spoilers in this review. If you don’t want to know any of the general plot plus some details in between, I suggest you watch and then come back!

 Episode ONE: “MEXICAN JOKER”  HALF

THE FULL

  • Any moment with a flashback to ‘the origin’ of the Mexican Joker was hilarious. The side characters who ran the ‘camp’ made the episode for me - they were hilarious.

  • Cartman being classic Cartman in this episode sending Kyle to the ‘camp’ for children. However, once Cartman appears there he compares the situation to concentration camps pointing out that Kyle is Jewish. Kyle’s reaction was great, another strong stand out moment in this episode.

  • The reason why no one is purchasing Tegridy merchandise/weed anymore is being they’ve all began growing their own. And Randy’s reaction is one of the reasons I love this episode.

THE SPILLED

  • The theme sequence! Really not a fan. Tegridy Farms as the opening to the show doesn’t make me excited for South Park to start. I understand the purpose of staying creative and sure they’ve done changes before but they haven’t completely changed the theme until now.

  • Randy doing all the showcases and whatnot for Tegridy Farms to open the episode was boring. I am hoping the Tegridy Farm bit gets dropped quickly. It was funny in season 22 but I am so far not enjoying this huge change of scenery.

Episode TWO: “BAND IN CHINA" FULL

THE FULL

  • The band that Stan, Kenny, Jimmy, and Butters play at Autumn Fest was easily one of my all time favourite scenes from South Park maybe ever. Very unexpected and my favourite genre of music so this really made my day.

  • Randy called out China directly was great. I support Trey and Matt’s stance on this episode and their reactions post episode. Pooh in jail too was hilarious!

  • The bands agreement to create a movie and then every scene following this storyline really got me I was laughing so hard it hurt! It’s a well written storyline.

THE SPILLED

  • So it looks like this Tegridy Farms opening is gonna stay consistent… that really sucks. The original theme is more fun.

DEEP DIVE

Not much about this episode I disliked! Considering music and filmmaking are a semi-perfect combination for me, this episode really did it for me! Strong second episode, hope this continues!

 Episode THREE: “SHOTS!!!" FULL

THE FULL

  • Cartman’s ‘My Body, My Choice’ t-shirt was a good touch. I didn’t notice it until after he kicked his mom out. Very funny and very Cartman.

  • The pig rally where they try to give Cartman his shot. I loved that, Cartman’s squeals while Liane decides she was wrong and tries to save him. Cartman running on all fours was definitely a highlight of this episode!

  • Strong ending! Trey and Matt always keeping it fresh and unexpected (while also very funny!)

THE SPILLED

  • Randy with his Tegridy Farms is becoming a little too much. I know Randy’s character is known for being over the top, drunk, white trash but his obsession with Tegridy Farms is becoming painful to watch. Boring, unoriginal. Randy being Randy I guess. But it’s certainly not working for me.

DEEP DIVE

I again don’t have much complaints except the Tegridy Farms bit. I thought I would enjoy this storyline but it’s getting very annoying. Randy in a position of power is dangerous. I’m hoping the next episode we get less Tegridy Farms (or move Randy into a different setting such as episode 2 in China).

Episode FOUR: “LET THEM EAT GOO" FULL

THE FULL

  • Cartman’s repeated heart attacks were quite funny. It may be seen as repetitive or uncreative but I felt every one of them hit a good time for it to happen. The reasons for the heart attacks are too good, I’m not going to spoil the joke though!

  • Ah, Tegridy Farms is funny again!! This episode pokes fun at plant-based meat (and do exceptionally well) through Cartman and Randy’s storylines. Randy’s saves Tegridy Farms for me! Randy decides with his marijuana, that isn’t selling well, to do the same plant-based meat with it. This results in a lot of South Park getting high off this meat. It was hilarious, I hope season 23 continues down this path for Tegridy Farms.

  • Cartman’s final speech will forever be a great South Park moment to me. A lot of people have been questioning Trey and Matt’s story choices the past few seasons but this end bit tells me they still got it!

  • The Goo Man - solid There Will Be Blood reference!

  • The cow killing rampage was hilarious!

DEEP DIVE

No misses from me this episode! This could be the best episode of season 23!

Episode FIVE: “TEGRIDY FARMS HALLOWEEN SPECIAL" FULL

THE FULL

  • I always love when South Park represents children's imagination on screen which they did in this episode with Butters in his opening in the museum.

  • The joke Randy keeps running with his ‘Halloween Special’ marijuana. Stating ‘I’d like to see someone make a better Halloween Special than this!’ As it cuts to Butters room being broken into by the mummy.

  • When Randy and Towelie smoke the chemically infused marijuana and have the trip of a lifetime is funny and very clever! Really enjoyed this scene a lot.

THE SPILLED

  • The mummy bit confused me, I didn’t like the storyline between Butters and the mummy. I’m assuming it was related to the curse the man told Butters but it just didn’t do it for me. I did like his entrances into buildings though that was fun.

 Episode SIX: “SEASON FINALE" FULL

THE FULL

  • Jason White getting run over by the police was random as hell but I thought it was really funny

  • Return of Mr. Garrison - I mean Mr. President. A short return but glad it happened.

  • Stan, Shelly, and Sharon’s response to Randy going to jail - having a party.

  • The immigration ‘camp’ from episode 1 returns and the Whites go to adopt a child which resulted in some funny jokes about being white.

  • Randy’s speech at the end where he stops the man from rubbing his shoulders - I loved his quick stop this joke really landed for me. Then his speech at the very end about the ‘Season Finale’ was super well written.

DEEP DIVE

No misses from me this episode!

 Episode SEVEN: “BOARD GIRLS" FULL

THE FULL

  • The boys not being smart enough to beat the girls at board games. This resulted in Heather, the trans athlete, to be unable to beat the girls at board games. It was a typical South Park but I enjoyed it.

  • Stan’s random interest in board games and Kyle’s comment was funny.

  • PC Principal was great in this episode! He’s PC but he becomes not PC in the media’s eyes because of the feud with Heather. I really loved his character in this episode defending Strong Woman

THE SPILLED

  • PC Babies opening - I’m not really a fan of PC babies in general though (I love PC Principal and Strong Woman though!)

 Episode EIGHT: “TURD BURGLARS" HALF

THE FULL

  • The video Kyle watches ‘so your mom got a fecal transplant’ - hilarious! His resulting obsession with germs on/around him was great.

  • Kenny, Stan, and Cartman trying to get the spice was pretty funny especially when Kenny realizes he doesn’t have a console to play Star Wars on.

THE SPILLED

  • The theme opening for the episode. Can we please just go back to the original theme?

  • The fecal transplant storyline - I understand the purpose of the episode but it just didn’t entertain me much.

 Episode NINE: “BASIC CABLE" HALF

THE FULL

  • Anytime I get to see any of the Goth Kids make an appearance is a good moment. Loved the return of Pete.

  • Cartman talking about his relationship with Heidi was cute. He doesn’t usually get emotional like that without a string attached.

THE SPILLED

  • Scott Malkinson opening - I don’t like suave crime stories (which is what they’re parodying) and it didn’t work for me.

  • Mr. Malkinson fighting against streaming services wasn’t very funny for me. Not really a great story line.

Episode TEN: “CHRISTMAS SNOW" FULL

THE FULL

  • The theme song is back!! Yay!!

  • The drinking and driving to Christmas music was hilarious! It gets a little violent but that’s South Park’s shock value.

  • I really enjoyed the return of Tegridy Farms after the town loses all its liquor till January 2nd. It created a solid storyline and feud between Santa and Randy. Great episode!

DEEP DIVE

No misses from me this episode!

OVERALL:

I overall enjoyed this season a lot and that it connects episodes in a fun way with Tegridy Farms rise and fall and eventual rise again to the immigration office from episode one returning for the White’s to adopt a child. Solid season, honestly enjoyed this one the most between season 21, 22, and 23.
