SANTA INC. (2021)

THE "IMDB" PREMISE:

"An elf working in Santa's Workshop in the North Pole dreams of becoming Santa Claus someday."

OUR [TO THE POINT] REVIEW:

HBO Max’s new Christmas-comedy series Santa Inc. mixes the Rankin/Bass style of stop-motion animation and Winter-Wonderland miniature sets with the crude, crass, foul-mouthed comedy akin to Sausage Party. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, a young elf, Candy Smalls, dreams of succeeding Santa Claus as he edges closer to retirement.

Santa Inc. features a cavalcade of comedians, whose voices you will immediately recognize when they pop up, including Sarah Silveman as Candy, Seth Rogen as Santa and Gabourey Sidibe as Goldie. The comedic stylings of these voice-actors should already give you an idea of what to expect in this show, and that predictability at some points takes away the shock value of the rapid-fire jokes this show contains. Nothing is off limits, whether it’s the frequent swearing or elves talking about drugs or having sex with each other, Santa Inc. focuses on sabotaging the innocence of Christmas through crude and culturally relevant humour, rather than being a cohesive narrative.

There’s an audience for this content, and if you need an easy laugh through an easy watch this Christmas time, then Santa Inc. may be for you, just don’t watch it expecting your next favourite annual Christmastime tradition.

SANTA INC. starts streaming on HBO MAX - December 2nd.
