NEVER HAD

COFFEE BEFORE

SXSW 2021 | SHORT FILM

SXSW 2021 PREMIERE: Marvin’s Never Had Coffee Before is a comedic short film that showcases Marvin, a man that as the title says, has never had coffee before. The reason for Marvin’s decision to go through the journey of following numerous coffee related things on social media, buying an expensive espresso machine, and actually trying a cup is all just to fit in with his work colleagues. Trapped at home with business conducted over Zoom, Marvin joins a meeting with his company only to quickly be surrounded by coffee influenced dialogue amongst his peers. Unfamiliar with the bean based beverage, he makes a fool of himself and seeks out all the essentials to make himself look as though he loves coffee. The short is very well shot considering the limitations in filmmaking this past year (2020), with Zoom playing a major role in the short. However, it does also have a scene featuring an in-person interaction with a masked individual. Marvin’s Never Had Coffee Before is about finding your truth among colleagues and just being yourself. There’s no need to fabricate the truth, even if it’s as small as pretending to love coffee. It’s cute, funny, and makes a great point.
