THE EVIL DEAD SERIES RANKED

Written By CONNOR PETREY

The EVIL DEAD franchise created one of the greatest things in horror - Ashley Williams. While the entire series features him in some capacity, it’s the unique mix of suspenseful horror, sharp comedy and practical effects that makes Evil Dead one of the greatest horror series of all time. Now let’s Rank Them!

ASH VS THE EVIL DEAD

While the worst of the series, that doesn’t mean it’s a swing and a miss. This television sequel hits all the possible highs with Bruce Campbell’s older Ash Williams. However where it succeeds in its revival of Ash, it’s at times all over the place with it’s supporting cast. Where there's Brock Williams (Lee Majors), there’s a Ruby. However any downsides of the supporting characters is almost instantly healed by the addition of the puppet Ashy Slashy in a single episode of the second season. Three seasons of a show that should of went longer, but what we got was enough to keep us satisfied until the next time Campbell comes out of retirement.

EVIL DEAD ii

Basically a remake of the first film with a few story changes and comedic elements added in, EVIL DEAD II isn’t purely horror and that’s what I love about it. It takes the excellence of the original and due to legal rights issues remade the film with a “THE” less title. Director Sam Raimi shows a fantastic mix of his campy horror with his distinct slapstick comedy in this sequel/remake and manages to land itself above the original.

ARMY OF DARKNESS

The first film in the series that I got to see and the one where I fell in love with the concept. While vastly different than the first film the series and even sillier than the second film, it’s the perfect contrast between the second Evil Dead and Monty Python and the Holy Grail that makes this film so excellent. It also brought about “This is my BOOMSTICK’, so...
