"Asking For It is one of the least enjoyable films I’ve sat through"

ASKING FOR IT (2022)

THE "IMDB" PREMISE:

"After a small town waitress is sexually assaulted after a date with her old friend she befriends a mysterious stranger who introducers her to an all femme gang."

OUR [TO THE POINT] REVIEW:

What do you get when you mix Ezra Miller as a woman-hating male supremacist and a group of young women seeking revenge? In the case of this 2022 film… a whole lot of nothing.

Think Promising Young Woman with no substance or heart. Asking For It takes the “revenge fantasy” premise and turns it into a cheap shtick; one that’s chock full of completely unsympathetic characters for whom we are given little-to-no backstory. More and more personalities are added as the film progresses and not one of these people enhances the narrative; instead, they serve only to water down an already murky plot.

The pacing is choppy, the editing feels manic, and the entire movie feels like something created by a kitschy arthouse film student trying to squeeze in as many gritty cliches as possible.

Asking For It is one of the least enjoyable films I’ve sat through in quite some time, and therefore I must sadly spill my popcorn.

CONCLUSIVE VERDICT:
